MS in Electrical Engineering

Program Overview

    • Total Credits Required: 30 credit hours
    • Program Options: Thesis or Non-thesis track
    • Specialization: Choose from 9 focus areas or follow general track
  • Core Requirement

    Semester 1

    Take ONLY EE courses during your first semester

    • 4 core courses (12 credit hours) as defined by your selected track
    • Regularly scheduled EE coursework (24 credit hours, including 4 core courses by your selected track)
    • Required math courses (6 credit hours):
      • Random Processes
      • Linear and Matrix Algebra
      • Track-specific Math

  • Continue core requirements

    Semester 2

    • Complete remaining core courses and math sequences
    • DEADLINE: Core and math sequences (18 credit hours total) must be completed by end of second semester

  • For NON-THESIS Students

    Semesters 3 & 4

    Coursework:

    • Complete 24 credits of regularly scheduled EE coursework
    • Take additional 6 credits from a combination of the below course types, plus a comprehensive exam.:
      • Track electives
      • Outside department courses (with prior approval)
      • Project
      • Graded internships
      • Independent study

    Comprehensive Exam:

    • Register by end of first week of classes with Graduate Program Specialist
    • Take exam the semester before your intended graduation
    • Up to 2 attempts permitted

  • For THESIS Students

    Semesters 3 & 4

    Coursework:

    • Complete 24 credits of regularly scheduled EE coursework

    Research and Writing:

    • Complete 6 credits of thesis research
    • Work on thesis writing and research

    Defense Preparation:

    • Prepare thesis defense (serves as comprehensive exam)

    Course Restrictions

    • First semester: EE courses ONLY
    • After first semester: Up to 6 hours outside EE department allowed (with with advisor and departmental approval)
