Graduate Program

Thesis, Dissertation and Graduation Requirements

  • Thesis and Dissertation Requirements

    Thesis/ Dissertation

The thesis/dissertation process is mandatory for all master's students with thesis option and all PhD students.

While the Graduate School has eliminated its format check requirement, the College of Engineering still conducts format reviews with deadlines that occur earlier than Graduate School deadlines.
Students are responsible for understanding and meeting all requirements from both the College of Engineering and the Graduate School. Failure to comply with these standards can significantly delay graduation. Keep in mind that deadlines arrive more quickly than expected.
    Important Note for Thesis Students
    • If you have completed thesis credits (EEL 6971) and want to switch to non-thesis:
      • Accumulated thesis credits cannot be exchanged or converted to other credit options
      • The EEL 6971 hours will remain on your transcript with a "Z" grade
    • If you are currently enrolled in thesis credits and want to switch during the semester:
      • Current thesis credits may be exchanged
      • Must file a Graduate School Petition no later than the last day of drop/withdraw without academic penalty

  • Apply for Graduation

    Graduation

The graduation application form is available in OASIS under the Student Menu. Simply click on the link that says "Apply for Graduation" and follow the quick instructions.

The College of Engineering also requires that you complete a graduation checklist. Once you fill out the graduation checklist bring it to your department for review and approval. Not completing the checklist will cause an undesirable delay in the graduation process.

  • Graduation Ceremonies

    Ceremonies

    College Graduation Ceremonies
All potential graduates who have not been previously inducted will receive an invitation to participate in the Induction into the Profession Ceremony. Only those who registered to graduate by the University deadline will receive this invitation.

  • Graduation Forms and Checklists

    Forms & Checklists

Graduating students, your graduation application form and graduation checklist need to be completed at the beginning of the term you plan to graduate.

Once you have applied to graduate, the department will check that you are meeting the requirements for degree certification. You can still make changes to your class schedule or address missing requirements by drop/add week of your graduating semester.

Note: Students applying for graduation late, past the university deadline, will not have their name included in the commencement program. Late applications have additional delays, visit the Office of the Registrar for more information.
