Germany Beyond the Classroom

PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

Germany Beyond the Classroom is an immersive Honors study abroad experience that brings learning to life through hands-on exploration of German philosophy, art, food, and everyday life. Spend the semester learning about German history, culture, and language, to help us understand what it means to be German over the past 150 years and today!
Travel to dynamic cities like Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg, all while building meaningful connections with local students at the University of Osnabr眉ck. With Osnabr眉ck as your home base, you鈥檒l gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be German 鈥 past and present 鈥 through cultural exchange, language learning, and unforgettable travel.
Coursework
Spring 2026 | Jan. 12 - May 7, 2026
The Germany Beyond the Classroom program is comprised of a spring 2026 IDH 3400 course offered on Tampa campus with a three-week trip to Osnabr眉ck, Germany at the conclusion of the semester.
Students travel to Germany at the conclusion of the spring semester to immerse in facets of everyday life, cultural realia, and create connections with German students. Our home base, Osnabr眉ck in northern Germany, is known as the City of Peace and is a welcoming, student-friendly city with plenty to explore!
Students enrolled in the course will also receive an International FaceTime Buddy 鈥 a German student enrolled at the Universitat Osnabr眉ck to correspond with throughout the semester 鈥 while learning about German national identity and history. Aside from German language lessons and integrating with their FaceTime Buddy鈥檚 local culture, students will travel on multiple excursions to such cities as Hamburg and Berlin to experience all the variety Germany has to offer.

Accessibility
Abundant walking is the most demanding part of this trip. We are constantly moving around, taking walking tours, hurrying to catch buses and trains.
