Charles Guignon Memorial Scholarship Awarded

Professor Charles Guignon (1944-2020) was a world-renowned Heidegger scholar, fondly remembered as a colleague and mentor at USF.  In his memory, his family and former students have endowed the Charles Guignon Memorial Scholarship.  In Spring, 2025, philosophy graduate students submitted essays in an open competition.  A faculty jury selected three of them, presented at an award ceremony on August 14, 2025.  Congratulations to Robert Claflin (first place), John Tuskey, (second place) and Jeffrey Diamond (third place)!

Eric Winsberg named British Academy Global Professor

Along with seven other world-renowned scholars, USF Professor of Philosophy Eric Winsberg has named to the .  Prof. Winsberg will be spending 2023-2026 at the University of Cambridge on his project, "Complex Modelling and Political Decision Making: Addressing Technical and Moral Problems,鈥 continuing his recent efforts to bring the tools of the Philosophy of Science to bear on problems in ethics and policy.

Absent Friends

2020 was a difficult year for the USF Philosophy Community, as it has for so many communities worldwide.  We mourn the loss of Professor Roy Weatherford (1943-2020), Professor Charles Guignon (1944-2020), and Professor Martin Sch枚nfeld (1963-2020).
