By analyzing the light it reflects, scientists can say whether that floating blob in a satellite image is made up of shrimp, seaweed or something else. 杏吧性世界 optical oceanographer Chuanmin Hu and his colleagues have worked out ways of spotting aggregations of small floating objects, such as shrimp eggs, algae, and herring spawn, from space.

USF Scientists Wrap Integrative Topographic and Bathymetric Survey of Lower Tampa Bay
The Center for Ocean Mapping and Innovative Technologies (COMIT), an element of the 杏吧性世界鈥檚 College of Marine Science in St. Petersburg, recently completed a four-week field sampling campaign called the Tampa Bay Bathymetry Experiment or TBBEx, to collect data on seafloor bathymetry (water depths) as well as coastal land elevations in the western portion of Tampa Bay.

Individual aspects of poor sleep can be detrimental to heart health. But if you combine them, the risk of heart disease can increase by as much as 141 percent. That鈥檚 the finding of a new study published in the journal Scientific Reports.
USF joins competitive military network to address key cybersecurity challenges
The U.S. military is enlisting the 杏吧性世界 to help address complex cybersecurity challenges. USF is among 84 universities and colleges nationwide selected to partner with U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM) through its new Academic Engagement Network. The goal is to enhance efforts in applied cyber research, applied analytics, strategic issues and future workforce development.

New research by a team of Florida-based academics has revealed that special radar satellite technology makes it possible to identify where unknown sinkhole activity is happening. The findings are based on investigations carried out in a densely populated area of West-Central Florida known as 鈥淪inkhole Alley鈥 by researchers from Florida International University and the 杏吧性世界.
